Fix It: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException when using update Panel in Facebook Apps

Hi All,

I was developing a Facebook application using Facebook C# SDK and i have an update panel in my page i'd like it to update a grid in it based on selected index changed event for a drop down list.

The problem is that i have the update panel was throwing an exception when i was trying to change the selected index of a drop down list, the error is :

Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException when using update Panel

This error is vague, to know exactly what is the problem of the update panel, Install Fiddler which is the best tool for any web developer should have to inspect http requests/responses.

After installing and open Fiddler to inspect all http round trips on my development machine, I found the actual error that was returned from the server is:

Given URL is not allowed by the Application configuration.

So the solution for this problem is a missing or incorrect configuration in your Facebook application. Open the configuration of your Facebook application and select website tab and set the website url for your local Facebook application is running:

Site URL : http://localhost/

Tips:

1) If you set the port number in the site url this won't fix the problem, Just set the localhost without any ports and this will fix the update panel problem is not updating because of the javascript error.

2) You can have SelectedIndexChanged event as AsyncPostBackTrigger in the update

panel and no issues with this because i read some posts were saying it has to be SyncPostBack

which is not actually right.

Unhandled exception : The file attached is not valid file error

Hi,

If you are using the Async file uploader control in AJAX Toolkit inside an update panel. when you select a file to upload, after selection, the file uploader control will be showing with Red background in the text field.

The fix for this problem is: click on the properties of the async file uploader control -> find ClientIDMode property -> change it from inherit to Auto ID.

Now try to build your web app. and select a file, The control will show the selected file with green background which means it is a valid input file validation being done by the control itself.

How to setup Telerik Sitefinity on Window 7

Hi All,

I'd like to share with my blog readers my struggling moments and issues i went through few days ago setup the Sitefinity/Telerik controls on my development machine which has Windows 7 Enterprise x64 bit.

If you are trying to install Sitefinity 3.7 SP3 on your box you will get different errors. and if you tried to integrate Telerik controls on your existing Sitefinity you will get more troubles because of dll dependencies between different builds.

The way to install Sitefinity 3.7 SP3 in your windows 7 x64 bit is to do the manual install to Sitefinity, it is easy and straight forward, they provide pdf file on how to do it.

Once you install Sitefinity on your box, if you would like to add your custom pages and develop using Telerik controls, don't try to install another Telerik control package form the site, Use the following dll in your project bin to have telerik controls.

** Steps to have Telerik controls for existing sitefinity project in VS 2010:
1) Open toolbox window.
2) Create a new tab on the toolbox.
4) Right-click under the created tab and click on add items.
5) Navigate to your bin folder.
6) Select Telerik.Web.UI.dll and click ok.

Then, you will have all Telerik ASP.NET controls on your toolbox.

Cannot open a closed file error in asp.net ajax / SharePoint Site

Hi Folks,

I was developing a webpart in sharepoint ( consider it as a asp.net usercontrol for ASP.Net Developers) and in the webpart i was uploading a document using AsyncFileUpload control in AJAX Toolkit.

And it was working fine, but for some files i was getting this error : "Cannot open a closed file" and i was thinking that the problem from the file or it is a code behind issue.

I figure out the problem was because of the file size threshold in the web.config, the default web.config is:

<httpruntime maxrequestlength="51200" />

I added this attribute:

<httpruntime maxrequestlength="51200" requestLengthDiskThreshold="4096" />


The resolution for the problem is: Set the length disk threshold to 4M ( or any other number in KB as per your application business rule) because by default the value is 80K.

Today Tip : Difference between Asynchronous & Asynchronous Postback in AJAX

Hi Folks,

Today i want to share with you some important tips for asp.net AJAX development,if you are developing an ajax website,sure you are using Synch. and Asynch postbacks in your page,what i want to share with you are the following tips:

1) Asp.Net AJAX executes only 1 Asynchronous postback at a time,which means if you have 2 buttons doing asynch. postback the ajax will execute one action at a time.
2) The difference between Synch and Asynch postback is major,in Synch postback the ajax is renedering the whole page for any postback which is not required usally if you have multiple update panel in your page.
3) In Asych postback the Ajax only render the panel which cause the postback,for example,if you have 3 update panels,and one of them cause postback ,the only update panel which contains the button will be rendered.
4) you can manage Synch or Asynch Postback in your page using an AJAX Class called PageRequestManager,sample code :

Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().abortPostBack();

I got some questions regarding the using the NotBot Ajax control : Where we can use it ? when ? and some visitors requires the code to use this control.

The answer of when ? You have to plug NotBot Control on your business applications,if it uses Forms authentication then you can put it on Login Page,OW you can put it on your master page incase your site for anonymous users.

The answer of where ? You can drop it on your login page or your master page instead of putting it on each page of your applications or websites.

The code you have to put : (in C#)

Secure your Website by using NoBot Control on asp.Net Ajax

Hi All,

Today i have used one of the important controls on ajax framework which secure my website/Application from automated attacks on your websites in away to hack your application without any human interaction.

NoBot is a control that attempts to provide CAPTCHA-like bot/spam prevention without requiring any user interaction. This approach is easier to bypass than an implementation that requires actual human intervention, but NoBot has the benefit of being completely invisible. NoBot is probably most relevant for low-traffic sites where blog/comment spam is a problem and 100% effectiveness is not required.


NoBot employs a few different anti-bot techniques:

1)Forcing the client's browser to perform a configurable JavaScript calculation and verifying the result as part of the postback.
2)Enforcing a configurable delay between when a form is requested and when it can be posted back.

NoBot can be tested by violating any of the above techniques: posting back quickly, posting back many times, or disabling JavaScript in the browser.
